Advancement
Training
There are leadership programs for people with disabilities like the youth leadership forum and there are certification programs for direct support professionals (DSP’s). However, there is no program that
builds on leadership skills with both working together on an interactive program. The Advancement Leadership allows teams to work together during service times to learn and build advocacy and leadership skills.
How it works – A small team gets together to watch a short video and view their lesson plan. After watching the video, the teams start their research on the lesson and come up a unique way that they want to demonstrate that they understand the lesson. This could be making a video, PowerPoint, display board, etc. One of the unique aspects of the Advancement program is how you report back what you have learned, we expect the teams to be creative in how they report what they learn, and we do not expect a ten-page report to show what you have learned.
The Advancement program focuses on five core areas: Advocacy, Leadership, Employment, Community and Finding Your Voice. A total of 100 unique lessons are in development.
